Introspection + Rest
Introspection + Rest
Flowers make you smile and with rest it's even better. Gift this special card to someone who needs reminding that rest and relaxation is absolutely a gift to the mind and body. It is a radical act of self-love as we continue to awaken our consciousness to such acts of kindness. All of us deserve this rest.
With that said, I wanted to illustrate Black People resting, relaxing and just doing normal things. The lack of representation to be presented "normal", is practically non-existent. This series will show Black People doing mundane things i.e. reading, relaxing, daydreaming, sleeping, etc. No jocks, No singers, no rappers, no dancers, no politics, no jokes...just rest.
This is a series inspired by the compassionate writer, activist and a true iconic NAP HERO, Tricia Hersey, Founder of The Nap Ministry. I took her messages + my own journey, experiences and feelings and mixed them into a visual love letter to myself and to others. I hope you get inspired to rest and nap.
"Our worth does not reside in how much we produce, especially not for a system that exploits and dehumanizes us. Rest, in its simplest form, becomes an act of resistance and a reclaiming of power because it asserts our most basic humanity. We are enough. The systems cannot have us." -Tricia Hersey
